He finished his ASU career as the school’s all-time leader in career tackles with 353 and solo tackles with 206, and also set the then-ASU single-season record for tackles with 145 in 1974.
He led the Sun Devils to a 28-8 record as a three-year starter and two-year team captain, and was a part of the only group in school history to win three consecutive Fiesta Bowls. He helped ASU capture WAC Championships in 1972 and 1973, as well as achieve a national ranking in each of his three years as a starter. ASU’s Team MVP in 1974, he appeared in the Coaches All-America Bowl, the East-West Shrine Game and the Hula Bowl following his senior season.
Breunig graduated from ASU in 1977 with a bachelor’s of science degree in business marketing, and was selected to the ASU Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 and became a member of the prestigious ASU Football Ring of Honor in 2012. He was also included in the All-Time WAC Football Team. Courtesy of www.thesundevils.com
